Nevada Outdoor School Naturalist (Elko)

The summer positions are 300 hours, 40 hours a week for 10 weeks. The schedule is Mon.-Fri. 8:00 am-4:00 pm Hours and days may vary. The Elko Summer Naturalists will deliver and assist with planning, coordination, and outreach of all Nevada Outdoor School educational programs including field trips, summer camps, special events, and Outdoor Ethics in Elko and surrounding areas. Training will be offered to the member and CPR training. 

 

Nevada Outdoor School Naturalist (Winnemucca)

Summer Naturalists will deliver and assist with planning, coordination, and outreach of all Nevada Outdoor School educational programs including field trips, summer camps, special events, Nature at Noon, and Outdoor Ethics. Training will be offered to the member and CPR training.

 

Friends of Black Rock High Rock Environmental Stewardship and Volunteer Coordinator (Gerlach)

The summer 300 hours a full-time term, Friday-Sunday 9:00 am-6:00 pm. Hours and days may vary. The AmeriCorps member will assist in stewardship projects and events throughout the Black Rock Desert High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area (NCA). Will assist in planning and executing stewardship projects and events including; improving and maintaining backcountry trails, installing wilderness boundary markers, flag fencing in sage grouse habitat, Black Rock Rendezvous, National Trails Day, and 4th of July and Perseids Meteor Shower camp-out events. Required Knowledge, skills, abilities: flexibility regarding work service, weekends will be required, basic computer skills, valid driver's license, enjoy the outdoors and camping, willingness to work in inclement weather, self-motivated and ability to multi-task, excellent communication skills, including public speaking, presentation, and written communication, strong organizational skills. This position involves some camping and backpacking and stewardship projects will be conducted outdoors, often in remote locations where camping will be at undeveloped recreation sites.

 

Friends of Nevada Wilderness Southern Nevada Stewardship and Outreach Assistant (Las Vegas)

The summer 300 hours, full-time position. Monday-Friday 8 am-4 pm, days and hours may vary. Friends of Nevada Wilderness Southern Nevada Stewardship and Outreach Assistant will assist southern Nevada stewardship and outreach programs both in the field and in the office with volunteer recruitment, outreach, and stewardship events in the Las Vegas area. The member stewardship component consists of promoting, recruiting, and managing volunteers in stewardship events as directed by land managers. On-the-ground work includes habitat restoration, construction of Kiosks and signage, invasive plant removal and monitoring, and native vegetation planting. Members will also lead interpretive hikes and events. The candidate will also record accomplishments and complete data entry after the project, and participate in virtual events. The outreach component will consist of attending and assisting outreach events. This may include speaking at public events and tabling at various locations to promote the work Friends of Nevada Wilderness does and recruiting volunteers. Hands-on involvement with the Wild & Scenic Film Festival and promotion will also be included.

 

Friends of Nevada Wilderness Summer Conservation Program Assistant (Reno)

The summer 300 hours term full-time term, Friday-Sunday 9:00 am-6:00 pm. Hours and days may vary.  The member will assist in planning stewardship projects including, improving and maintaining backcountry trails, treating areas for noxious weeds, fire restoration projects, and improving riparian habitats. The member will help with outreach event planning and coordination, communications and media, and data entry.
