NOS Staff Positions:

Nevada Outdoor School Programs Coordinator

Nevada Outdoor School is hiring for a full-time Programs Coordinator.

This position will coordinate and oversee the delivery of NOS Youth, Training and Community programs by training, delegating and supervising our AmeriCorps Outdoor Educators. 

Candidates must be willing to obtain and maintain Leave No Trace, Tread Lightly and OHV Safety Trainer Certifications. Some NOS programs are provided statewide, so overnight travel is often required, as is a valid driver’s license. 

Skills & experience desired: College degree or at least 2 years of experience in a related field.   Supervisor experience that includes training, coaching and evaluating personnel is required. Excellent writing, public speaking, organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills are a must. Knowledge and experience teaching youth and adults in inquiry-based teaching methods and curriculum design is desired.

Nevada Outdoor School Director of Finance

Nevada Outdoor School (NOS) is hiring for a full-time Director of Finance in Winnemucca. 

This position will maintain & administer all financial obligations of NOS including bookkeeping, general accounting procedures, payroll, online banking, reconciling of bank statements, records management, etc.  Perform general office administrative duties such as office and program supply purchasing, maintaining vehicle maintenance records & keeping files current. Another major component of the position is grants management procedures including preparing & submitting program progress reports, reimbursement requests & mileage statements.

 

Skills & experience: College degree, Tech School Diploma or at least 4 years of experience in a related field.  Nonprofit accounting procedures, financial records & grants management experience is desired. Must have good organizational & time management skills.

Nevada Outdoor School Communications and Marketing Specialist

Nevada Outdoor School (NOS) is hiring for a full-time Communications & Marketing Specialist based out of Winnemucca or Elko, Nevada. Option to work remotely with 1 day in office required weekly plus travel. This position will work to promote NOS’s public relations & social media initiatives through various outlets such as Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, You Tube & LinkedIn.  The NOS CMS will create, maintain, promote & distribute marketing & promotional materials, both print & electronic.  Write & collect NOS blogs, Outside Guide articles & press releases.  Act as “reporter” for NOS, attending programs to take photos or videos & create content.  Assist with AmeriCorps member recruitment.

 

Skills & experience: College degree, Technical School Diploma or at least 2 years of experience in a related field.  Excellent writing & editing skills, using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace platforms. Photo, video & written content creation for social media posts & website design experience is desired.  Public speaking experience & ability to build & maintain positive, meaningful relationships with other community members, local agencies, funders, media outlets & partner organizations is highly valued.

Full Time (900 Hr.) Positions - Starting March 1, 2024:


Nevada Outdoor School Outdoor Educator (Winnemucca Positions Open)

The positions are 900 hours, 40 hours a week . The schedule is Mon.-Fri. 8:00 am-4:00 pm Hours and days may vary. The Winnemucca Spring Outdoor Educator will deliver and assist with planning, coordination, and outreach of all Nevada Outdoor School educational programs including field trips, summer camps, and special events in Elko and surrounding areas. Training will be offered to the member and CPR training. 


Friends of Black Rock-High Rock Environmental Stewardship and Volunteer Coordinator

Spring 900 hours a full-time term, Friday-Sunday 9:00 am-6:00 pm. Hours and days may vary. The AmeriCorps member will assist in stewardship projects and events throughout the Black Rock Desert High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area (NCA). Will assist in planning and executing stewardship projects and events including; improving and maintaining backcountry trails, installing wilderness boundary markers, flag fencing in sage grouse habitat, Black Rock Rendezvous, National Trails Day, and 4th of July and Perseids Meteor Shower camp-out events. Required Knowledge, skills, abilities: flexibility regarding work service, weekends will be required, basic computer skills, valid driver's license, enjoy the outdoors and camping, willingness to work in inclement weather, self-motivated and ability to multi-task, excellent communication skills, including public speaking, presentation, and written communication, strong organizational skills. This position involves some camping and backpacking and stewardship projects will be conducted outdoors, often in remote locations where camping will be at undeveloped recreation sites.
