Community Focused Programs
We are committed to helping create healthy, happy communities!
We love getting out into the community and encouaging people of all ages to explore and learn about the natural world! You might see us at the farmer's market, local parades, PTA meetings, and many other community events promoting our programs, teaching people about the natural world or encouraging people to get outdoors. Join us for our monthly community hikes and/or nature programs!
Beginners Hike in Lamoille!

Powerhouse Picnic Area in Lamoille Canyon
Hiking by yourself for the first time can be scary, so come hike with us!
Join NOS and Friends of the Ruby Mountains short hike in Lamoille Canyon geared for "beginners."
Learn about the location of great local trailheads, what to bring when you go, the seven Leave No Trace Principles.
Plus, enjoy s'mores when you complete the hike! 1-mile up and back on Talbot Trail, with an additional option, if you are interested!
Please ensure there is one adult per 2 children.
All ages and abilities welcome, but focus is for beginners.
Please bring a water bottle and dress for the weather!
International Observe the Moon Night!
Saturday, October 1st

California Trail Interpretive Center
International Observe the Moon Night is a time to come together with fellow Moon enthusiasts and curious people worldwide.
Meet Nevada Outdoor School out at the California Trail Center on Saturday, October 1st at 6:00pm for an evening of exploring our moon!
Enjoy a moon night hike, painting your own moon scene, learning cool new moon facts, observing the moon through telescopes and so much more!
Please dress warm for the evening event, bring a chair, flashlight, and your own reusable mug for some hot chocolate!
Remember, you can always check-out snowshoes and other camping gear from Nevada Outdoor School for just $1 a day!

THE NOS ROAD SHOW
We take our fun and customizable Road Show booth around the state to a variety of events such as Reno Motor Sports Expo, Nevada Outdoor Experience, Get Outdoors Nevada Day, Earth Day events and more to talk with people about safe and responsible recreation. Stop by to play TREADpardy, spin our Wheel of Ethics, make an Outdoor Ethics hang-tag or get information about Leave No Trace, Tread Lightly! and/or OHV Safety.
