Nevada Outdoor School's Outdoor Ethics Lessons

This is a collection of lessons offered by Nevada Outdoor School in outdoor ethics for all ages, group sizes, settings, and skill levels. The lessons described below are ones that we can come into your classroom or other setting and teach; if there isn't a lesson below that suits your needs, pick a principle or pledge and we'll create a lesson for you! Education materials are also available for download or purchase on the Leave No Trace or Tread Lightly! Web sites. You may also download our Leave No Trace Interpretive Kit.

Putting it into Context (4th Grade)

Recreation Role Plays (4th Grade)

Participants are introduced to the principles of Tread Lightly! through a guessing game. Next, students take a closer look at the principle Respect the Rights of Others by looking at scenarios that require their new-found Tread Lightly! knowledge to figure out the responsible solution to different scenarios. Then wrap up the lesson with Tread Lightly! beach ball!

Know Before You Go (5th Grade)

Participants get a visual of the importance of Leave No Trace after a drawing of their favorite place gets overrun by impact monsters. Next, students will take a closer look at the principle Know Before You Go, which teaches students how to prepare for trips into the great outdoors.

Are You Prepared? (5th Grade)

Participants get a visual of the importance of Tread Lightly! after a drawing of their favorite place gets overrun by tread monsters. Next, students will take a closer look at the principle Educate Yourself, which teaches students how to prepare for trips into the great outdoors.
